You Stuck? Yeah, Me Too Sometimes.
Hey,
Let’s be real for a second.
You’re driven.
Ambitious.
You’ve got big goals – that $5k-$10k a month in your solo business, financial freedom, all that good stuff.
But sometimes…
You just can’t start, right?
Maybe you stare at your task list and feel that little knot in your stomach.
Or you tell yourself you’ll get to it later.
Yeah. We’re talking about procrastination.
It bugs me, honestly.
Because I know, you know, you should be working on that content, reaching out to that prospect, building that funnel.
But for some reason, you just don’t.
Why?
Well, it’s basically unnecessary delay.
Putting off doing the stuff you know you need to do, even when you know it might bite you in the butt later.
It’s not laziness, usually.
It’s deeper than that.
Kinda like prioritizing feeling good right now over crushing it later.
Or maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed.
Or maybe you’re a bit of a perfectionist and scared of screwing it up.
Are you nodding your head right now?
Does that resonate with you?
Because here’s the thing.
That procrastination?
It doesn’t just make you feel guilty.
It costs you.
It costs you opportunities.
It costs you momentum.
It costs you progress towards that life you’re building.
It makes you feel like you’re spinning your wheels.
Like you’re falling behind.
And yeah, it can bring on a good dose of stress and even shame.
Imagine feeling that weight of "should" constantly.
The thought of that important task hanging over your head while you scroll mindlessly.
That’s the hell of it, isn’t it?
You know what you could achieve, but this thing keeps getting in your way.
I get it.
I’ve been there.
Still am sometimes.
Remember when I was trying to get clients for my agency and sent over 1000 cold emails?
Yeah, that was partly not knowing what I was doing.
But it was also MASSIVE procrastination on starting those calls and doing the actual hard work.
It was easier to hide behind sending emails.
It felt safe.
But it didn’t get results.
I had to finally just say, “Enough.”
And figure out how to actually do the uncomfortable stuff.
And it didn’t happen overnight.
It was about figuring out why I was avoiding it.
Was I scared?
Overwhelmed?
Once I started understanding the reasons behind my own procrastination, I could actually do something about it.
So, how do we actually beat this thing?
How do you go from staring at the screen to actually doing the work?
Here are a few simple steps you can take, like, right now.
First, ask yourself why you’re delaying.
Are you anxious?
Is the task too big?
Be super specific.
Then, and this is key: break that monster task into tiny, tiny pieces.
Like, ridiculously small.
Can you just open the document?
Write one sentence?
Make it so easy it feels dumb not to start.
Set goals that are actually realistic.
Not “work on the project,” but “work on step 1 of the project for 25 minutes.”
And here’s one that’s hard for a lot of us ambitious types: accept that it won’t be perfect right away.
Just get it done.
You can polish it later.
Also, minimize distractions.
Seriously.
Put your phone in another room.
Close those 50 tabs.
Create an environment where it’s easier to focus than not.
You can even try temptation bundling.
Pair the thing you don’t wanna do with something you do enjoy.
Listen to your favorite podcast while doing that tedious admin work?
Sound fair?
Look, if you find yourself putting off that main task, don’t just give in to scrolling.
Try “productive procrastination” – do a secondary task like answering emails.
It keeps you moving.
Be kind to yourself too.
Seriously.
Forgive yourself for past procrastination.
It happens.
You’re learning.
The most crucial step?
Just start immediately.
Because motivation usually follows action, not the other way around.
Just take that one tiny step.
Open the doc.
Write the sentence.
Send one email.
Use tools if they help – apps, timers, whatever works for you.
And if it feels like something deeper, like anxiety or feeling really down, don’t be afraid to seek professional help.
And reward yourself.
When you complete a small step, acknowledge it.
You crushed it!
This isn’t about magically eliminating procrastination forever.
It’s about understanding it, and having simple, actionable steps to fight back.
Because when you overcome this, you unlock that potential.
You start moving towards that $5k-$10k month.
You start building that financial freedom.
You stop feeling stuck and start feeling unstoppable.
So pick just one of these steps.
Which one feels easiest?
Which one will you commit to doing right now?
That’s all there really is to it.
Now go take that one step.
Stay focused,
Brandon Rhee
